Just bumped into a trailer for a new movie starring a bunch of familiar faces called White Frog. It stars Boo Boo Stewart (Breaking Dawn), Harry Shum Jr (Glee), BD Wong (Law and Order:SVU), Tyler Posey (MTV's Teen Wolf, band Lost In Kostko), Kelly Hu (X-Men 2), and Gregg Sulkin (Wizards of Waverly Place).

My Favorite Inappropriate Musical Comedian ... Bo Burnham
Labels:
bo burnham
I remember when Bo was just a musical high schooler making goofy songs on "the Youtube" and today he is pretty much a 21 year old version of that doing that for a living. The thing that sets him apart from other standups is his interjection of clever music into his routine. He is very much not politically correct and no subject is off limits like Helen Keller and Nazis.
His commentary on the human condition through his music is hilarious and I know I am several years late to the Bo Burnham game because he has been famous for some time now. You should really check out his stuff. There is a video below and his recorded stand up special Words, Words, Words is available on DVD or on live streaming on Netflix.

Underworld Awakening Left Me Sleeping
Labels:

So I ran out late Friday morning to see Underworld: Awakening because I am a big fan of the series. I had to hunt down a theater and time that I could watch it in 2D because I really don’t like the 3D quality yet. I find it too distracting and the picture brightness is always too dark. I got a good price and a good seat at Cinemark Palace in the Plaza in Kansas City, MO.
I am not going to do a blow by blow on every detail of the movie but I have to say it was not as good as the first two movies were. Kate was awesome as usual but the other characters were pretty boring. I did like the hybrid clone girl but the other vampires and werewolves were very lame and served no purpose. It was very clearly a set up for a sequel as they left the entire storyline hanging at the end.
The special effects for the werewolves were worse than the other movies too.
Very disappointed :(

Kevin McHale's Moves Like Jagger
Labels:

After watching Tuesday night’s new episode of Glee (s3e10) I
have to say Glee is back. It was
literally the first episode of the season that recaptured some of the awesomeness
of season two. It had a lot’s of great
music some of which was arranged better than the original versions. I have to say I am not a fan of what passes
as pop music these days. I will piss off
a lot of people by saying this but if you don’t create and play your own music
you really aren’t a musician … you are basically a karaoke singer like on
American Idol.
Watching this I am reminded yet again that the Glee
production team put one of their best dancers in a wheel chair as Artie. I was watching with one of my friends and he
commented that Artie’s dancing in the song made him just look spastic. I just thought he can only do Jagger from
the waste up so that is what it would like it … very spastic. Kevin brought his a-game to the vocals and to
the Mic Jagger moves … it just looks very odd in a wheel chair.
Now that I have thoroughly made some people mad by insulting
their musical taste back to Glee … The show opened with an old tune from the
musical Grease called "Summer Loving" I believe.
It was done very well and Chord and Amber’s vocals were great. The show ended with a crazy over the top synchronized
swimming number that was fun and creative but somewhere in between my socks
were blown off by Kevin McHale’s (Artie) kickass rendition of Maroon 5’s “Moves
Like Jagger”

I was going to post of video but Fox has been taking down
youtube videos as fast as people can post them.
They don’t like free publicity apparently.
Another thing I like about this episode was Blaine and Kurt
weren’t dressed like clowns. Glee in
season 3 took Blaine who was dressed like an average human in Season 2 and made
him so trendy he looked as outrageous as Kurt does. I think the producer’s intent was to make
them trendy dressers but it really just makes them look ridiculous and a very
unfair representation of gay teens. Brittany
and Santana are portrayed and pretty average couple with the exception of Brittany’s
comic relief with some of the best one liners ever written for TV.
Before this turned into a mini rant I was saying how good
Kevin McHale (@druidDUDE on twitter) was in the episode with the music and
interaction with Becky’s (Lauren Potter) romantic advances. The British accent in Becky’s monologue was
epic too.
Kevin was awesome … and the real Glee has returned. So many people were so out of character and
it didn't feel like Glee to me. The universe is a little balanced now.

Daniel Radcliffe On SNL

I don't watch Saturday Night Live much but I had to check it out because Daniel Radcliffe was hosting last night. He did a pretty good job for the most part. The opening monologue was kind of ho hum but a few of the skits were funny but like all Saturday Night Lives the last 5 years there was a lot of non funny going on. Weekend Update with Seth Myers was awesome and the Target sketch was pretty funny too. Is was great listening to Daniel's over the top American accents.
Christian Wig and Bill Hader continue to be my favorite SNL cast members. You can be almost guaranteed any skit that they are in will be funny. You can watch the episode on NBC.COM at http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/january-14---daniel-radcliffe/1379126/

Caleb Landry Jones Is Really Good In Contraband
Labels:

I just got done watching the new Mark Wahlberg movie Contraband and I have to say I really liked it. There is a lot of violence because the nature of the subject matter, smuggling. One of my new favorite actors, Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee from X-Men: First Class), is one of the main characters. I don’t want to give too much away but the opening sequence is Andy (Caleb) on a cargo ship that is getting boarded by customs cops and he is forced to dump the cocaine he is smuggling even after he swore to his brother in law, Bryce (Mark Wahlberg), he would stay away from smuggling after Bryce left the business a few years back.
Needless to say the crazy drug dealer played by Giovanni Ribisi comes after Andy and threatens to kill him if he doesn’t come up with the $700,000 the drugs were worth ASAP.
The plot is very predictable but this film is filled with great actors including Lucas Haas, Ben Foster, and Kate Beckinsale which make the film worth watching. It was nice to see Caleb Landry Jones with an actual part with some depth to it. His three minutes of screen time in X-Men: First Class weren’t enough. This film is rated R for the violence so I know some of you won’t be able to see it but if you are old enough it’s worth your time and money.

Ian Gallagher, The Gay TV Character For The Rest Of Us

I just got done watching the Shameless season two opener and I have to say that Cameron Monaghan’s character, Ian Gallagher, is the gay character for the other 90% of us.Ian is your normal average run of the mill gay character. He’s not all flamboyant with the crazy clothes and the now patented Glee bow tie. The gay characters on Glee are such a huge exaggeration of what most gay kids are. Most are just every day kids you see next door or walking around your neighborhood just like Ian Gallagher.
It’s refreshing to see this side of the gay people on TV as most TV series paint us in a bad light or just use us for comedy relief. Ian cares about the people around him and is a standup guy for the most part. The one exception was sleeping with a married guy in season one.
Cameron Monaghan’s performance is excellent and gives us a role model for the average middle of the road kid. It takes a lot of courage to play a gay kid in a movie or TV series and I thank him for it. Cameron has been on so many shows over the years as guest cast like Criminal Minds and NCIS but he will always be Chad, the weird kid, on Malcolm In The Middle to me.Sunday, January 8, 2012
