I wanted to take a minute and suggest a book I read back in 2002 by Anne Rice called Blackwood Farm. Blackwood Farm centers around a teenager, Quinn Blackwood, living down south on a pretty big estate. I don’t want to give away too much of the book but you need to know this book deals with growing up, sexual identity, ghosts, vampires, and witches. I always suggest this book to anyone who has ever felt out of place growing up because believe me, Quinn Blackwood is not your typical guy.Basically Quinn is haunted by a spirit, Goblin, that only he can see that is somewhat a mirror image of himself in some ways. After growing up with Goblin around Quinn wants to find out Goblin’s origin and hooks up with the famous Vampire, Lestat. Witches get involved, Quinn falls in love, and strange things ensue.
As with all Anne Rice novels there are some adult themes so be warned. Quinn struggles with ghosts, sexual identity, a vampire, and losing people close to him. You know ... normal teenage stuff.
This book has a lot more bite to it (pun intended) than a lot of the modern day young adult books like Twilight and Vampire Diaries. This is also a story that guys can really identify with specifically.
